# Trash

> Deleting, restoring, and what permanent deletion removes.

Deleting a document or folder moves it to **Trash**. Nothing is removed straight away.

- A deleted folder goes to Trash as one item with everything inside it, and comes back the
  same way.
- While an item is in Trash it is hidden everywhere: the browser, search, the assistant,
  relationships and agents.
- **Restore** puts it back where it was. **Undo** right after deleting does the same.

## After 30 days

Items are permanently deleted 30 days after they were moved to Trash. You can also
**Delete permanently** one item, or **Empty trash** for everything. On a touch screen both
row actions, and the days left before the item goes, are in the menu at the end of the
row.

Permanent deletion removes the stored file and every version of it, its summary, its search
index entries, its relationships and its access settings. There is no copy left to
recover.

Items in Trash still use storage until they're permanently deleted. See
[storage and limits](https://filement.app/docs/guide/limits.md).
